Good afternoon! We are going to take blog commenting to a whole new level today. Your assignment today is to visit the websites of at least 7 of your classmates, and comment on their blog posts. Before we do that, you will need to check the settings on your blog to make sure comments are enabled.
1. Log into your weebly account and go to your blog. Once you are there, you will see a "Blog Settings" button.

2. Once you click on "Blog Settings" this will open up:
3. Change the Comment Default to "Require Approval." You will need to approve all blog posts once I have approved them. OPTIONAL: Add your email address to the "Notify my of new comments" box (select yes first). If you don't have an email address, I would recommend signing up for one today. Google mail is the easiest. There is NO law stating you have to be 13 to sign up for an email account, however, Google still requires that you be at least 13 and they ask for your birthday when you sign up. Ask your parents if it's okay for you to have an email account (doesn't have to be with google). You will need an email for this class.
Note: For some blog posts, you may not want people to comment. For instance, when I post a voting poll, I usually turn off comments since I don't want people to comment. Just to vote.

The Comments Button lets you view recent comments on your entire blog and approve or delete comments too.
4. IMPORTANT! I am the moderator for all of your blogs. What this means that I get an email asking me to screen everything written as a comment on your blogs. Then I have the option to approve or delete. I will approve all comments that are constructive, positive, and discussion-oriented. I will delete anything that is obscene, rude, or offensive. This also means that your blog comments will not immediately post until I have screened them. This is meant to be a safety measure since there are a lot of weirdos outside of our school who could attempt to contact you on your blog. Also, since most of you have never had a blog before, I will tell you, there are people out there who love to write hateful things on blogs as comments for no reason other than to anger you. By adjusting your blog settings we can avoid ever having to read their hate. However, later on in the semester moderating your blog will become completely your responsibility and I will no longer be approving or deleting comments. I will still be tracking comments however.
5. Okay, now that all of that is out of the way, please log-out of your weebly account, and click the "class pages" above. Start visiting some sites. You get 10 points for each well-written blog comment you post today. The point limit is 100 points (10 comments) although you may write more if you want. Engage your classmates in discussion.
6. IF you finish early, you should go to your webpage and make a new current-events post.
